RE

Our Intent for Religious Education at Abbot Alphege Academy

At Abbot Alphege Academy, children will have the opportunity to explore how individuals and communities make meaning and sense of their lives through the study of major religions around the World. This enables pupils to know about, understand and respond to the important and ultimate questions of life. RE is taught in such a way that it inspires pupils to explore, develop and affirm their own faith and values and have respect for the faith, beliefs and values of others. The importance is placed on the development of the whole child: spiritually, morally, socially, culturally and intellectually.

As a Church of England school, we share our Christian Values with our children, considering how we can enact these in our everyday life. We give children the opportunity to experience worship and prayer and also to ask big questions worth asking through this. We welcome all children and families of all faiths and those of none. We also develop our R.E. lessons with connections and visits to our local church, St Andrews, as well as visiting other religious places of worship.

Abbot Alphege Academy follows the Bath & Wells Diocese’s agreed syllabus – Awareness Mystery and Values and alongside this, the resource Understanding Christianity is used to supplement the planning and teaching of religion across all classes.
